Peter Gray To Keynote AERO Conference

As you know, we took a break from the publication of the e news to reevaluate the newsletter, the conference and AERO. Adler Yang, film maker and entrepreneur and free school graduate from Taiwan is visiting us for a few weeks to help out with conference promotion and organization. You can expect some interesting announcements from him soon.

 

As many people have discovered, the AERO Conference is unique in the world and the most important gathering for learner-centered education. Many new education initiatives have grown from the AERO conference.

This week we reexamined many aspects of the conference and we are happy to announce several new facets that are planned for this year:

We have a theme for the conference: If Learner-Centered Education is the Answer, What is the Question?  We'd like to hear your responses to this.

 

EXCITING NEWS:

* Peter Gray now plans to do a keynote at this conference and will be organizing a mini-conference for his Alliance of Self Directed education. Furthermore they are bringing Akilah Richards, a world-renowned speaker and expert on Self-Directed education, especially as it relates to minority students. More info coming soon.

* Also, Manisha Snoyer, founder of Cottage Class, will be bringing teachers.  parents and students from her program to the conference. They have created dozens of micro-schools and developed many services for them. More info coming soon.

*At the request of past participants, we will have activities and discussions in the lunch room during meals.

All people who register this week can do so at the $225 low income rate. After that they will have to make special arrangements to get discounts.

This conference is shaping up to be a spectacular event. We already have people coming from 25 states and 6 countries. Modern Academy Cancun is seeking elementary (1/2, 3/4, 5/6) and secondary (7/8) teachers to join our faculty in mid-July. Native English speakers are required. Bilingual teachers are preferred.

Opening on August 22nd, we will serve 190 children ages 2 to 14. We are looking for candidates experienced in teaching multi-age groups, an ability to empower student learners, and support creative problem-solving. Our unique program blends project based learning with the developmentally appropriate educational use of the iPad, hands-on learning materials, twice weekly neurofeedback sessions – supported by good nutrition as well as plenty of outdoor activities.

A Child’s Place School In Lincroft NJ Is Seeking An Early Childhood Teacher

Early Childhood Teacher Position

Program Description

A Child’s Place School is a school for 3-7 year olds founded in 1974. The school has a rich legacy and is well respected both locally and nationally for its approach to quality progressive learning. Collaborative team teaching supports the emergent curriculum using reflective practice and creative problem-solving. Inspiration is drawn from both the progressive tradition and the schools of Reggio Emilia.

Job Description

Work in a team-teaching model in planning and implementing a daily program based on the interests of the children to facilitate learning and enhance the development of the individual child according to A Child’s Place policies and philosophy.

Minimum Qualifications/ Requirements

  1. BA ECE or related fields with Early Childhood certification, PK-3.
  2. Good general health. Position involves physical demands of kneeling, bending, sitting at children’s level, walking, standing, lifting 50lb and handling equipment as well as outdoor physical activities.
  3. Arts background and knowledge of the practices of Reggio Emilia and/or Social Constructivism a plus but not required.

Scheduling

Start date is Monday, August 21, 2017. Regular academic school year, full time Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm (Tuesdays to 5pm for staff meeting).

Salary/ Benefits

Starting salary dependent on academic training, quality of experience, knowledge of integrated learning in mixed-age settings, training and special talents.

The person hired will:

  • Have experience presenting, or be able to demonstrate a strong ability to lead a class. Strong preference for experience in alternative and/or holistic education.
