  • 12 month renewable school year position, August 1, 2017 through July 31, 2018.
  • Salary range $33,000-$38,000 with full medical, dental, and 401K benefits.

The person hired will:

  • Have experience presenting, or be able to demonstrate a strong ability to lead a class. Strong preference for experience in alternative and/or holistic education.
  • Help cultivate, design, and create a broad base of educational opportunities for students.
  • Participate in activities that promote an understanding of the mission statement, philosophy, and core values of Summa Academy.
  • Demonstrate strength of character and personality, as well as deep passions and a willingness to experience whatever life offers.
  • Be eager to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and students to create a healthy, vibrant learning community built on consensus and communication.
  • Be willing to engage approximately 100 hours of (paid) Teacher Training in the Summa way.
  • Have a deep and abiding interest in lifelong learning and personal development.

Possessing some of the following characteristics, skills or experiences is also a plus:

  • Be familiar with a student-centered approach to education
  • Be familiar emergent curriculum creation
  • An art, music, drama, dance, outdoor, and/or science background

Apprenticeship Positions Available for 2017-18 at Liberated Learners Centers

Liberated Learners offers a year-long apprenticeship program to support people to learn the skills and ideas necessary to create and/or work successfully in self-directed learning programs. Liberated Learners is a network of not-for-profit centers based on the North Star model which support teens to live and learn without school. Apprenticeship positions are currently available for the 2017-18 at a number of centers in our network. See the list of member programs here: http://liberatedlearners.net/members/member-programs/

The apprentice will work closely with the staff at the center in all aspects of running the program, including planning in the summer and closing out the year. Program responsibilities include: teaching classes, one-on-one tutoring, mentoring teen members, working to build and maintain an engaged community of members and staff, running family meetings, organizing field trips and events, participating in staff meetings, and working with prospective teens and their families.
