The Antioch School is looking for an experienced teacher for the Younger Group teaching position, beginning in the 2018 school year.  The Younger Group is a multi-age class comprised of children approximately 6-9 years old.  Applicants must have extensive understanding of child development and individual learning styles and the demonstrated ability to apply those principles. Bachelor’s degree or higher required. The school is seeking a teacher with keen observation skills, who can develop curriculum based on the social, intellectual, and creative needs of the individuals within the group. The Antioch School is an independent elementary school in the town of Yellow Springs, Ohio, with a 97-year history of educating children in a democratic setting.

STEAM Facilitator Position

Wolf Hills Community School, a small, community-based, non-profit K-5 school in Abingdon, VA seeks a passionate educator to design and lead a STEAM-based curriculum component in our dynamic multi-age learning environment. This position requires someone with teaching experience, preferably in an alternative school environment, and a creative, flexible and open-minded approach to teaching and learning. This is a full-time position.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design STEAM-based learning opportunities for all ages (K-5) that compliment an established math curriculum and also work in the context of a broader emergent pedagogy.
  • Work with the Director of Programming and other teaching staff on the design and implementation of all learning projects.
  • Manage a small classroom of mixed-age and mixed-ability students.
  • Participate and draw inspiration from extensive community-based learning opportunities, field trips and community service activities.
  • Document student progress through student portfolios, photography/film/audio, teacher-notes, art, reflection and other non-testing forms of assessment.
  • Facilitate learning in all aspects of student growth: social, emotional, and intellectual.
  • Be accountable for adapting as needed to effectively teach, learn and grow as a professional educator.
  • Engage with student families, school staff and administrators, community partners, and a board of directors.
  • Must a possess a passion for learning and teaching, and enthusiasm for creating and implementing math and science curricula.
