Voyagers’ Community School Looking to Fill Positions

Voyagers' Community School, in New Jersey, currently a K-12, progressive school, is expanding. We have purchased an 18,000 square foot building that will soon house our current operation along with a preschool and extensive after school program. We are looking for teachers and administrators, all of whom must be innovative and passionate about working with children. We hope to find:

  • A preschool director and preschool teacher/researchers
  • A lower school and an upper school administrator who wants to continue teaching along with leading and supporting colleagues.
  • Admissions and development staff.
  • Teacher/researchers for children of all ages.

We are looking for intelligent, well rounded individuals with a zest for life and a love of learning. If you are interested, visit our website to learn more about who we are, voyagerskids.com. If you remain interested, submit your cover letter, resume, a statement that reflects your philosophy of education and other anecdotal items you would like use to review. If you are moved to do so be creative in telling us who you are and what you would bring to our school.

Also, help us by spreading the word to colleagues you feel might be a good fit for us. We will help candidates cover interviewing expenses and we offer relocation expenses when necessary.

Not ready to teach quite yet, but would like to intern in an innovative environment where you can hone your skills and learn from mentors? Apply for an internship or for an associate teacher/researcher position.

Thank you, Karen.

Conference registration is open!

We're getting this year's AERO conference off to a flying start this week. The early bird rate is still on but will end after the first 100 of you have registered, and the price will go higher than usual because of the amazing people and things happening at this year's conference. You can now get full registration, make a deposit to hold the early bird rate, get single or double dorm rooms, or get a package including dorm and conference registration. We have the better (ground level) dorms this year, and we may run out of dorm space. Food will again be at the cafeteria a la carte, although we may have one banquet night. But generally this will save you a lot. Most venues don't let you do this.

Of course Sugata Mitra is now under contract  and will definitely keynote the AERO conference. He has some special ideas about it. The conference will also explore technology and educational alternatives. So workshops on that theme are welcome. But we will also be happy to have our usual wonderful spectrum of presentations about learner-centered education. We will be announcing other keynoters over time.

An Idea Who’s Time has Come

Dear EfHG Partners,
I have been working with three others to prepare for building a network of people who want to change our system of public education to meet the needs of individual students. We invite you to be part of the network. As one of the steps, we would like to get the following into the hands of as many teachers as possible. It can be posted on bulletin boards
in school faculty rooms and in many places on the World Wide Web. If you agree with it, we invite you to distribute the following as widely as you can:
If You Believe……….

  • That every child is different from all others, with unique talents, personality, interests and needs.
  • That these diverse characteristics define each child's reasons to exist and contribute to the world.
  • That it is a senseless and tragic waste to allow any child's genius to go unrealized.

Then………..
It’s time to act!  Together we can:

  • Switch to a student-centered system of public education with high standards for diverse human development.
  • End the use of high-stakes testing to enforce student uniformity of learning.
  • Give teachers the agency needed to develop real partnerships with students, parents, and communities to create the schools our children need.
  • Allow for personalized graduation plans to honor the diverse strengths, interests, and aptitudes of each student.
