Join us for our 16th annual alternative education conference where AERO is excited to continue our tradition of bringing people together to dig deeper into what it means to transform education. At the forefront of change we find ideas at the heart of all of AERO’s member schools. Democratic schools, free schools, and other forms of learner centered education all provide nurturing alternatives to an often cold and dehumanizing public school system.
Our keynoters: Dr Bernard Bull, president of Goddard College; Blake Boles, Host of Off-Trail Learning Podcast, and Founder of Unschool Adventures; Four Arrows, author of many fantastic books on student centered learning including Teaching Truly: A Curriculum to Indigenize Mainstream Education, and Point of Departure: Returning to Our Authentic Worldview for Education; Will help us ask where do we go from here? How do we expand and grow the movement? How do we make learner-centered education available to children everywhere?
Throughout its history, the Education Revolution has been marked by innovators and creative thinkers. We stand on the shoulders of giants, the pioneers whose courage and sacrifice have paved the way for the work that we do now. Those forerunners laid the foundation of observation, practice, and philosophy that has allowed the movement to flourish.
Today the community of educational alternatives is vibrant and varied, as people from around the world explore what it means to put learners at the center of their own education.
Join us in Portland as we honor the legacy of those first great minds and dive deep, create action plans, network and pay homage to those that have clear the path before us. Let’s roll up our sleeves and put our plans into action.
