Sudbury School of Atlanta Staffing Opportunity! Deadline 4/15/15

Staffing opportunity!

The Sudbury School of Atlanta is seeking a staff member with an entrepreneurial spirit and a

passion for empowering students through the Sudbury model of education. In addition to

working with young people every day as part of our learning community, staff are expected to do

the administrative duties that accompany the effective functioning of a small, independent

school.

Sudbury School of Atlanta, located in Avondale Estates, GA, is a democratic PreK12 school

that follows the Sudbury model of education. Students have tremendous freedom to pursue their

interests at their own pace and in their own way. Student freedom is balanced by responsibility

to the democratic community where students and staff have an equal vote in all matters of school

governance, including making school rules, approving expenditures, and even renewing staff

contracts.

Staff duties include:

  • Participate in a dynamic learning community dedicated to living out its democratic principles
  • Support and empower students to find their passions and pursue their interests
  • Mediate conflicts using Nonviolent Communication (NVC)
  • Participate on the Judicial Committee
  • Participate in School Meeting
  • Work with committees that may include staff, students, and parents to make decisions collaboratively
  • Communicate professionally with current and prospective parents, board members and other stakeholders
  • Registrar duties ensuring that all contracts and paperwork are completed for each family
  • Track financial expenditures in partnership with the SSA treasurer
  • Host Information sessions and parent nights
  • Maintain and post on the SSA Facebook page, website and blog Qualifications:
  • Belief that all students know their best path to learning
  • Belief in the nature of children (and adults!) to strive for personal growth; commitment to one’s own personal growth
  • Excellent communication and literacy skills, including expressing thought in writing and interacting effectively with children and adults from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • Be an interested, interesting, engaged, and passionate person
  • Strong selfmanagement skills, including high levels of initiative and ability to authentically and effectively prioritize
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Pass required background checks before beginning employment
  • Ability to trust in the school’s democratic School Meeting and peerbased judicial system to adequately resolve conflicts and issues

As one of a team of two paid staff, you will have a wide variety of responsibilities. SSA hopes to

grow our community and the ideal candidate will be willing and able to act as one of the leaders

in this effort. While you do not need to have marketing experience, a willingness to gain skills in

this area and to think flexibly and creatively about how we can promote our school are essential.

Staff members should be able to act as models of responsibility, resourcefulness, initiative, and

good conflict resolution, and be willing to listen to and accept feedback. Staff are expected to

continually read about and work within the Sudbury model of education.

Staff are required to be at school 8:45am to 3:15pm Monday through Friday, with hours outside

of school hours expected for meetings and administrative or marketing work. Please submit a

letter of interest and resume to info@sudburyschoolofatlanta.orgor PO Box 748, Avondale

Estates, GA 30002. If you have additional questions, contact us either by email or by phone at
