Connecticut Association of Alternative Schools and Programs

The major goals of CAASP are to establish and develop an Alternative Education Network System throughout Connecticut, supply resources to developing alternative programs, support existing alternative programs, interact with other state agencies on related topics, provide membership with a monthly newsletter, and hold an annual state-wide Alternative Education Conference.

InternationalAssociation for Learning Alternatives (IALA)

A useful resource from a sister organization is The International Association for Learning Alternatives and their website www.learningalternatives.net. You can subscribe to their monthly e-mail notice of news about educational alternatives and use background materials from the website. There is no cost for either. Some people join and pay a modest membership fee to help support the organization but that is not required. Most of the support for this all volunteer organization comes from state associations.

Iowa Association of Alternative Education

The Iowa Association of Alternative Education (IAAE), a state-wide organization of educators, officially began in 1979 but has its roots in the decade of the 1960’s. The organization started with and maintains a vision of educational reform, while it has evolved, grown, and adapted to adjust to current educational challenges. The IAAE exists to assure all students find a pathway to at least a high school education. The web site provides the general public and educators with a source of information and support to build and manage education alternatives.

Michigan Alternative Education Organization

MAEO hosts an annual spring conference, as well as regional activities for students and alternative educators around the state. MAEO sponsors scholarships for graduating alternative students pursuing higher education, and regional grants that promote student activities.

Minnesota Association for Alternative Programs

The purpose of the organization is to meet the needs of students, parents, teachers, administrators and the general public through a professional organization dedicated to the improvement of alternative education and program options.

The National At-Risk Education Network

NAREN is about one thing: Pulling together into a collaborative FORCE to make the difference that society,
government, and dysfunctional families have not/cannot/will not make in these children's lives. NAREN is a non-profit, non-sectarian professional support system for reforming educators who need a gathering
point in their fight for their student's human and educational rights.

New York Coalition for Healthy School Food

New York Coalition for Healthy School Foods works to promote optional plant-based entrees, healthy snack foods, farm to school programs, and nutrition education to encourage healthier choices.

New York Collective of Radical Educators

New York Collective of Radical Educators (NYCoRE) is a group of public school educators committed to fighting for social justice in our school system and society at large, by organizing and mobilizing teachers, developing curriculum, and working with community, parent, and student organizations.

NYSAEA is an organization that furthers and supports multi-faceted instructional approaches and means of assessing learning for all students, particularly those in non-traditional environments.

OAAE is dedicated to the mission of supporting and promoting educational options through professional development, technical assistance and public awareness.

Parent Empowerment Network (PEN)

PEN is dedicated to educating and training parents, teachers, and community members at-large in developing strategies to promote sound policy for quality public schools.

The mission of the International Association of Learning Alternatives is to lead, promote and support the growth of diverse and innovative learning alternatives and options, thereby offering choices for parents, students, and educators.

Washington Association for Learning Alternatives

The Washington Association for Learning Alternatives Promotes, Supports and Explores efforts with Families and Communities to achieve Educational Options that provide full opportunity for all learners to become successful.
