Job Title: Elementary Teacher

FTE: 0.5-1.0 dependent on enrollment

Salary: $47,000 per year for 1.0 FTE

Start Date: Approximately August 23, 2017

This is not a Gresham-Barlow Licensed bargaining unit position.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field, current State of Oregon Teaching License with Elementary PK-12 endorsement or ability to obtain prior to start date, and current First Aid Card

 

Job Summary:

The position of elementary teacher is for the purpose/s of improving student success in academics through implementing approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; developing lesson plans; modeling the necessary skills to perform assignments; providing a safe and optimal learning environment and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. The Teacher plans, implements and monitors education programs for assigned students.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Be willing to travel to the Corvallis area to meet with local students as a group or groups (depending on the number of students in the area) two to four times per week for group & individual instruction, student interaction & projects, as well as individual goal-setting & progress meetings
  • Work with students in a project-based learning setting
  • Ability to speak and teach Spanish preferred
  • Background in agriculture, outdoor education and working with maker spaces is also preferred
  • Familiarity with the principles of Nonviolent Communication and the tools of Agile Learning Centers and ability and willingness to facilitate the curriculum and group interaction using these philosophies
  • Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, and health education utilizing course of study and skill sequences consistent with district and school goals and ?objectives ?
  • Provide planned learning experiences in order to motivate students and best utilize the ?available time for instruction ?
  • Enhance lesson plans and instructional materials to provide individualized and small group?instruction virtually or face-to-face in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student ?
  • Lead students through the development of a work sample and evaluates that work sample ?
  • Supervise and administer the Oregon Statewide Assessments, including preparation, logistics and security consistent with district policies and practices ?
  • Plan and coordinates the work of educational assistants or other paraprofessionals as needed ?through home visits or on-site ?
  • Evaluate academic and social growth of students consistent with the requirements of the ?district program, keeping appropriate records and reports ?
  • Evaluate the instructional program for students ?
  • Develop and uses multimedia instructional materials suitable for various learning modalities of ?students with a wide range of mental, physical and emotional maturities ?
  • Establish and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional virtual learning ?environment and effective participation in all activities ?
  • Utilize and incorporates new materials and processes ?
  • Participate in evaluation of materials, equipment and online curriculum for suitability for the ?classroom. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive ?displays of students, bulletin boards and interest centers. ?
  • Create and maintains an active, responsive climate for learning, through positive teacher- ?student rapport and helps students to develop a positive self-image ?
  • Communicate with parents through a variety of means ?
  • Hold parent conferences to discuss individual student’s progress and to interpret school programs?Participates on a regular basis in in-service to maintain professional competence Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs relating to students within the school
  • Meet the state standards for competent and ethical performance Prompt and regular attendance?Conduct home visits with parents and students

 

Other Job Functions:

  • Selects books, instructional aids, and supplies and makes recommendations for purchases
  • Supervises students in and out of classroom activities during the assigned work day
  • ?Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and Administrative Regulations
  • Confers with colleagues, administrators, students and/or parents when necessary
  • Participates in various meetings (e.g. parent conferences, in-service training, site meetings, etc.) ?for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information
  • Presents a positive teacher image to the community
  • Collaborates with other staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude ?and learning problems
  • Establishes good relationships through participation in faculty committees and meetings.

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

  • Skills in planning, developing, and implementing curriculum
  • Effective communication skills with students, parents and other school personnel
  • Knowledge of instructional theory and best practices, curriculum, state and federal education laws, regulations and policies
  • Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parent, other school personnel, meet schedule and deadlines. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception and accommodation field of vision

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3-5 years teaching experience in elementary setting Licenses, Bonding and/or Testing Required:
  • Appropriate teacher’s license
  • Highly Qualified Status for assignment
  • Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certificates
  • Blood-borne pathogen training, as appropriate
