{"id":8873,"date":"2016-02-05T14:38:22","date_gmt":"2016-02-05T19:38:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.educationrevolution.org\/store\/?p=8873"},"modified":"2016-02-05T14:38:22","modified_gmt":"2016-02-05T19:38:22","slug":"brooklyn-free-school-assistant-teacher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.educationrevolution.org\/store\/brooklyn-free-school-assistant-teacher\/","title":{"rendered":"Brooklyn Free School Assistant Teacher \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\tThe Brooklyn Free School is currently accepting applications for assistant teachers for the 2016-17 school year.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe Brooklyn Free School assistant teacher supports the work of the teacher, including managing daily activities, outdoor play and lunch routines.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tResponsibilities:\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&bull;Supporting the mission and daily practice of a free school with joy and creativity.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&bull;Daily classroom set up, preparing materials for projects and clean up as directed by the teachers.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&bull;Communicating with teachers about their needs. following their direction, and anticipating where help is needed in order to support the needs of the whole group.&nbsp; This may include managing a variety of activities while the teacher works with a small group or working with individual children.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&bull;Taking children to the playground every day or planning for indoor play in inclement weather.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&bull;Supervising children&rsquo;s lunch time.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&bull;Supporting and facilitating conflict resolution mediation when needed.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&bull;Occasionally longer days may be required to support group trips or special school activities.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tQualifications:\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&bull;Experience working with groups of children preferred.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&bull;Experience working with children between the ages of 4 and 8 preferred.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&bull;Bachelor&rsquo;s degree preferred.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tCompensation:\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tHourly rate commensurate with experience.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe Brooklyn Free School follows the NYC public school calendar.&nbsp; The assistant teachers will have all school holidays off and the summer months, unpaid.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBrooklyn Free School engages students and staff in democratic decision-making and problem solving. We honor student choice and facilitate student centered learning through play and exploration, constructivist teaching, collaborative course work and self-directed student initiatives.
