Deadline 4\/15\/15"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\tStaffing opportunity!\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe Sudbury School of Atlanta is seeking a staff member with an entrepreneurial spirit and a\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tpassion for empowering students through the Sudbury model of education. In addition to\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tworking with young people every day as part of our learning community, staff are expected to do\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tthe administrative duties that accompany the effective functioning of a small, independent\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tschool.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSudbury School of Atlanta, located in Avondale Estates, GA, is a democratic PreK&shy;12 school\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tthat follows the Sudbury model of education. Students have tremendous freedom to pursue their\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tinterests at their own pace and in their own way. Student freedom is balanced by responsibility\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tto the democratic community where students and staff have an equal vote in all matters of school\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tgovernance, including making school rules, approving expenditures, and even renewing staff\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tcontracts.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tStaff duties include:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\t\tParticipate in a dynamic learning community dedicated to living out its democratic principles\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tSupport and empower students to find their passions and pursue their interests\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tMediate conflicts using Nonviolent Communication (NVC)\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tParticipate on the Judicial Committee\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tParticipate in School Meeting\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tWork with committees that may include staff, students, and parents to make decisions collaboratively\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tCommunicate professionally with current and prospective parents, board members and other stakeholders\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tRegistrar duties ensuring that all contracts and paperwork are completed for each family\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tTrack financial expenditures in partnership with the SSA treasurer\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tHost Information sessions and parent nights\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tMaintain and post on the SSA Facebook page, website and blog Qualifications:\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tBelief that all students know their best path to learning\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tBelief in the nature of children (and adults!) to strive for personal growth; commitment to one&rsquo;s own personal growth\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tExcellent communication and literacy skills, including expressing thought in writing and interacting effectively with children and adults from a wide variety of backgrounds\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tBe an interested, interesting, engaged, and passionate person\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tStrong self&shy;management skills, including high levels of initiative and ability to authentically and effectively prioritize\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tAbility to maintain confidentiality\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tPass required background checks before beginning employment\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tAbility to trust in the school&rsquo;s democratic School Meeting and peer&shy;based judicial system to adequately resolve conflicts and issues\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAs one of a team of two paid staff, you will have a wide variety of responsibilities. SSA hopes to\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tgrow our community and the ideal candidate will be willing and able to act as one of the leaders\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tin this effort. While you do not need to have marketing experience, a willingness to gain skills in\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tthis area and to think flexibly and creatively about how we can promote our school are essential.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tStaff members should be able to act as models of responsibility, resourcefulness, initiative, and\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tgood conflict resolution, and be willing to listen to and accept feedback. Staff are expected to\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tcontinually read about and work within the Sudbury model of education.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tStaff are required to be at school 8:45am to 3:15pm Monday through Friday, with hours outside\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tof school hours expected for meetings and administrative or marketing work.
