We operate democratically and provide an array of classes while&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">maintaining a holistic and conflict resolution based environment for our students. Major emphasis is&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">placed on the social \/ emotional development of our students.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">Free school refers to a philosophy in which the students choose for themselves how to spend their day.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">At the Village Free School, there are no required classes or compulsory evaluations. The Village Free&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">School offers classes and activities based on student choice that are geared towards age groups, but&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">there is no strict age separation within the space.&nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<u><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">Description of position:<\/span><\/strong><\/u>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn this position you will be working directly with students, parents, interns, and staff. This position&nbsp;<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">requires that candidates be able to work collaboratively in a cooperative manner with all of these groups.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">Advisors provide some classes, offer support with activities, and help mediate conflicts when they arise&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">between students. Candidates will have to communicate with all ages in a way that honors everyone&#39;s v<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">oice.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">Specific expectations for position:<\/span><\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\t\tInitiate your own learning and problem solving\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tWork collaboratively and cooperatively with students, staff, and parents\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tPrioritize multiple competing tasks\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tHelp identify and assist in resolving interpersonal conflicts\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tAttend weekly staff meeting\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tCommunicate with caregivers to help increase connection and understanding of how the school&nbsp;operates, answer questions and share vital information\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tDemonstrate courage in providing appropriate boundaries, trust and support people of all ages&nbsp;within a non-coercive learning environment\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tDemonstrate self-care and hold gracious space for yourself and others\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tAct in accordance and in support of the mission, core principles, by-laws and other resolutions&nbsp;adopted by the Village Free School\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tShow a willingness to hear and give feedback about performance and operations of the school\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tServe as a broker, advocate, facilitator, and teacher with and for students within their own&nbsp;developmental needs and toward assisting them to meet their educational goals\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tLocate resources for subjects of student interest\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tMentor students based on genuine relationships and a desire to support and challenge students&nbsp;in following their interests and getting their needs met\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tBring passions and ability to lead activities for groups small and large\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tCreate and support clean-up and community ownership of school space and materials\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tListen, advocate where wanted, be present\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tModel and teach mediation and conflict resolution skill\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tCreate your own learning plan\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tParticipate in community decision making process\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tParticipate in review process\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\t<strong>Skills needed:<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\t\tAbility to work with all ages of youth\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tAppreciation for working in a non-coercive environment\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tWillingness to learn to work through conflicts as they naturally arise using conflict resolution skills\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tBe able to maintain in an environment that can be energetic and noisy\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tComfortable initiating activities with students\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tSupport and help students with self initiated activities\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tBe willing to work through conflict as they might arise with staff, parents, and interns.\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tGood communication and listening skills.\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\t<strong>VFS Provides:<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\t\tA dedicated staff to mentor and coach.\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tSupport to develop and implement personal and professional goals.\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tRoom to grow, make mistakes, and thrive.\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tLove, appreciation, and experience working with the wants, needs, and growth of youth and their families&nbsp;in a progressive non-profit community school.\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\t*This position requires a high level of ability to keep sensitive information confidential.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Position: K-12 Advisor Part time \/ 15-20 hours per week&nbsp;
