{"id":27219,"date":"2021-02-14T18:08:34","date_gmt":"2021-02-14T23:08:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.educationrevolution.org\/store\/?p=27219"},"modified":"2021-02-14T18:08:38","modified_gmt":"2021-02-14T23:08:38","slug":"peter-bergs-summary-of-the-record-setting-2021-aerox","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.educationrevolution.org\/store\/peter-bergs-summary-of-the-record-setting-2021-aerox\/","title":{"rendered":"Peter Berg&#8217;s Summary of the Record-Setting 2021 AEROx"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On February 12 -13, for over 30 continuous hours, about 200 innovators, change-makers, learner-centered advocates, and education revolutionaries from\u00a0all around the world.\u00a0 \u00a0Gathered virtually at the AEROx conference to exchange\u00a0ideas, create plans, and network.\u00a0\u00a0<br>We began with a session from\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/longviewschool.org\/\"><strong>Longview School<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and Little River School students. This session was unique\u00a0as it was a combination of a prerecorded\u00a0session along with the live session, where students answered questions about different aspects of their democratic schools.\u00a0<\/p><p>We then all gathered for an official\u00a0welcome and overview from Peter and Jerry.\u00a0 Some stories were shared as we made brief introductions and went about what the next 30 plus would look like.\u00a0<br><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/crystalbyrdfarmer.com\/\">Crystal\u00a0Byrd Farmer<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>launched\u00a0into her keynote on how schools have been responding to COVID 19.\u00a0 The ways in which they have been\u00a0 resourceful and how COVID has shone a spotlight on inequities\u00a0that still exist.\u00a0<br>After a break for networking\u00a0and food. James Ford, Aixa Rodriguez, Heather Kostell, and Peter Rawtisch gave their keynote panel on how vital and critical relationships\u00a0are to bringing about the education revolution.\u00a0\u00a0After that is was time for our two workshop blocks which you can view\u00a0<strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aeroconference.org\/workshops\">here<\/a>\u00a0.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><br>That brought us to Je&#8217;anna Clements Keynote on &#8220;What do we mean by Structure in Education?<br>Thanks to our friend Kristy Cheng and members of the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sriaria.com\/\">Sri Aria\u00a0<\/a>school in Malaysia we were able to have scheduled &#8220;overnight&#8221; (for the Northern Hemisphere) programming for the first time ever,\u00a0which you can\u00a0view\u00a0<strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aeroconference.org\/aeroxattendees\">here<\/a>.<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0We would have never been able to do this without their support and guidance.\u00a0<br>Dr. Putri from the Sri Aria school was kind enough to take time out of her day to deliver her keynote at 7 am Eastern Time.\u00a0 We didn&#8217;t stop as we went right into a keynote\/ panel discussion from Lea Jovy &#8211; Ford, Hannah Miller and Jenn Sutherland on going beyond the one size fits all model of education.\u00a0<br>Then it was time for another round of workshops, which led right into our two mini &#8211; talk sessions.\u00a0 Jo Symes started the mini &#8211; talk sessions with her presentation on the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.progressiveeducation.org\/about\/\"><strong>progressive education site<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>&#8211; resource collection she has created.\u00a0\u00a0<strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/soul-of-education.org\/prague-event\/participants\/speaker\/75-zineb-mouhyi\">Zineb Mouhi<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>continued the mini-talk sessions with her presentation on why young people should design the future of education.\u00a0\u00a0<br>After another break and networking time<strong>\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/angelesworkshop.com\/\">Ndindi Kitonga\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>delivered her keynote on anti &#8211; oppressive praxis in education.\u00a0 From there our afternoon workshops kicked into gear.\u00a0\u00a0<br>There was a buzz and anticipation as we were moving into our last few sessions.\u00a0\u00a0<strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/naimsanders.com\/\">Naim Sanders<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>delivered on a sacred place for learning and the soul of education.\u00a0 Heather MacTaggart followed Naim with her presentation on<strong>\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unschoolingschool.com\/index.html\">unschooling school\u00a0<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Jerry and Peter wrapped up the conference with an informal evaluation and feedback session and a session on putting on more local events.\u00a0<br>Throughout the whole conference there was plenty of networking, laughs, stories and even some music.\u00a0 \u00a0As with all AERO events I came away exhausted but recharged at the same time.\u00a0 \u00a0We look forward to doing more events like this in the future.
