Elementary School Teaching Position at Santa Lucia School

Job Description – The person selected for this position will be responsible for the general supervision and management of a class of up to eighteen elementary aged students, 4th through 6th graders.

Qualifications – The person selected for this position must be professionally prepared as a teacher, especially in the field of elementary education and development. The appropriate Teaching Credential is preferred. This person must have the personality and ability to provide leadership in maintaining an existing elementary program and the creativity to develop new curriculum, as needed. Being able to relate to both children and adults is essential.

Responsibilities – Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
    1.) Maintaining an existing elementary program and creating new curriculum, as needed, in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the school.
    2.) Planning, supervising, and implementing the program for the class.
    3.) Gearing the program to the needs of the individual student with concern for his/her interests, abilities, talents, and individual learning style.
    4.) Treating each child with dignity and respect.
    5.) Helping each child become aware of his/her role as an integral member of a group and the larger community.
    6.) Being responsible for the selection of any additional equipment and materials for implementing the program.
    7.) Being responsible for the arrangement, appearance, and learning environment of the classroom and surrounding grounds.
    8.) Assisting in the coordination of all learning activities in relationship to the ongoing primary and middle school programs.
    9.) Assisting in the effective use of a full-time instructional aide, parent helpers, specialty teachers, and community volunteers.
    10.) Assisting the staff in supporting open, constructive parent-school relationships.
    11.) Attending all staff meetings and recommended in-service training.
    12.) Representing the school in the community.

Starting Date – September, 2015, with planning sessions during the summer.

Hours – Approximately 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with Independent Home Study assignments created for Friday, traditional school year, September through June.
