Arts to the Core Charter School

Arts to the Core Schools, Inc. is a recently incorporated, dynamic 501c3 public charity located in Central Pennsylvania’s heartland. We are seeking a vibrant, self-directed individual to serve as the principal of an art-centric (visual arts, music, dance, theater arts) K-8th grade, urban primary charter school. The school, to be situated in Harrisburg, PA., is on projected to open in the fall of 2017, with either 240 students, K-3rd grade, or 300 students, K-4 th grade. It would then add a grade a year to serve a maximum of 540 students.

Arts to the Core Charter School is expected to occupy approximately 70,000 square feet of the form Bishop McDevitt High School building located on an eight acre campus on upper Market Street in the City of Harrisburg. This building is an historic property and is particularly well suited to an arts oriented curriculum. It also has excellent athletic facilities include two gymnasiums, training rooms and a regulation football field.

The school will seek to become the first Pennsylvania A+ Certified School. It will employ art project learning as the primary vehicle for delivering core academic concepts, stills and content. The talented professional that we seek will direct and be accountable for school planning, curriculum development, student and teacher assessment, professional development, instructional leadership, special programs, community relations, facilities management, safety, and overall administrative oversight of the facility.

Candidates will be expected to possess a Postgraduate Professional Pennsylvania License or the ability to become emergency certified, with endorsements in administration and supervision [pre K-12], plus at least seven year’s progressive teaching and/or administrative or supervisory experience [completion of administrative internship program preferred]. Candidates must be familiar with the principles, practices, materials, and equipment used in modern, pre-secondary education and have had practical experience managing some or all of these variable in a school setting. Ideally, he or she also should have experience in the implementation of an arts-infused curriculum.

The most promising candidate will possess practical knowledge of curriculum design, instructional practices, educational trends, and public school organization and regulatory compliance. Powerful oral and written communication skills will be required. Finally, the successful candidate will have demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, community, and the general public.
