Brooklyn Free School Teachers

Brooklyn Free School is now accepting applications for teachers  for the 2016-2017 school year.

We seek teachers who are self-starters, energetic, creative and highly motivated, who have strong communication skills and can establish positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.  We are especially seeking teachers who specialize in building math, literacy, and science skills in meaningful contexts, are certified in Special Education, have experience in diverse environments, and have taught or co-taught in another educational setting.  Applicants must have experience teaching a wide range of learners and an interest in actively and joyfully engaging with young people in multiple ways.

The school is located in the Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY.  We serve students pre-k through 12 grade.  Teachers receive an annual salary of approximately $42,000 and employee health insurance.  Teachers are expected to work full time, including 5-10 evenings for occasional meetings and events.  Teachers receive time off for all school holidays and breaks and during the summer months.

Brooklyn Free School engages students and staff in democratic decision-making and problem solving. We honor student choice and facilitate student centered learning through play and exploration, constructivist teaching, collaborative course work and self-directed student initiatives.
