The goal of this course is to help students understand the history and the critical issues facing educational alternatives in the United States. Grafted on a conceptual map of the categories of educational alternatives the course focuses on themes such as early learner-centered education, Free Schools, Democratic Schools, Unschooling, progressive alternatives, holistic education, education for social change, spiritual development, and community education.
