I teach organic, no-till gardening workshops. I was in Longview TX last weekend and will be in Indonesia next month. I volunteer my time to teach anywhere. I am interested in promoting school gardening. I will email a how-to document to anyone who wants it and have a free dvd. minifarms@gmail.com

Dear Ron,
Though this article was given as a talk back in 2000, it certainly holds true today and seems even more relevant in 2012.

As the Dean of a small private school in Boston, I find it a constant struggle to evolve our program into a more alternative one. We have all the ingredients and then some, but the battle lies with the general public who have themselves been "schooled" to such a degree that the holistic approach, though desired at the younger ages, becomes frivolous concept to them as their children begin to reach the age when they start looking at high schools and they feel the pressure to scramble to join the pack of test-takers. Those families who had earlier championed our program then turn to complain that we are not preparing their children (test-wise) for the inevitable next step. This, of course is not true, as year after year the students who do complete our program do enter their choice schools, but every year there comes the same hysteria from parents which infects our oldest students and creeps into the minds of the faculty who are earnest in their attempts to deliver what is needed and wanted and, who themselves are victims of their own schooling, whether they know it or not.

I cannot adequately express how good it is to be reminded that I am not alone in this battle and to hear from people like you who are able to articulate the larger scale scene. I am very appreciative of your insights,
Trish R

This design is steller! You certainly know how to keep a reader entertained. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost...HaHa!) Excellent job. I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!

Definitely believe that which you stated. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the web the easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed while people consider worries that they plainly do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people could take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks

Thanks, Christine, for this inspiring article...I have been hoping to open a Homeschool Resource Center in Marin, CA, and have now realized that a Community Learning Center is truly more aligned with my own values and philosophies towards education and inclusiveness...it's still a work in progress, but here's a good description so far: http://www.gofundme.com/homeschool-center
