So you want to start an Alternative School?

What if most of the work was already done for you and you could take over one that already exists?

The Manhattan Free School is looking for new leadership. One of our parents temporarily stepped in as temporary director when the former director left this summer, but we need to replace him ASAP because he has to return to his prior duties. So, come run a school in the Big Apple!

We’re a small school, with a small staff but we’ve got reasonably nice facilities that we rent from a church (a good deal for 6 classrooms, gymnasium, recording studio and access to their commercial kitchen). Our charter is in good standing with the state. We have active supportive families and students.

You’d have the opportunity to take the school in new directions, because the current staff will be finishing the school year, but will need to be replaced for next year.

We’re looking for someone with the passion, ideals and energy to lead. Some experience would be nice, but we don’t have specific prerequisites. Responsibilities would include the general administration, fundraising, recruitment, and oversight of the school’s operations. Both the current and former directors are available to train you and support the transition.

Please complete our online application ( http://manhattanfreeschool.org/leadership_application ), and contact us with any questions.

We look forward to hearing from you.
