P econic Community School is accepting resumes for a full time Educational Facilitator (teacher) for the 2013-2014 school year. The Educational Facilitator will guide a small K-1 classroom, fostering hands-on experiential learning, cultivating principles of a holistic, placed-based education, and integrating the arts through an emergent curriculum.

Peconic Community School is a progressive independent community school that opened with its first multi-age class in Fall 2012. The school’s mission is to nurture children’s natural curiosity, imagination and inclination for creativity and play, and integrate the land, environment and community through the unique landscape of the North Fork, to inspire an awareness of self and the surrounding world, and to foster excellence in math, science, literacy, arts and humanities.

The Educational Facilitator will inspire intrinsic learning within students, implement project-based learning, document instruction, and foster positive relations between school and family. We are seeking someone who is interested in becoming part of a close-knit community and whose commitment and presence will help shape school culture. The ideal candidate will have an interest, experience and/or knowledge in alternative educational philosophies such as Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Waldorf and Holisitic. He/She will also be passionate, professional, compassionate, collaborative and creative.

This is a unique opportunity to be on the ground floor of a school that is a creative and innovative place for learning.
The Educational Facilitator position will commence August 2013.
